Geoactive is proud to announce that our colleague, Dr. Tegwyn Perkins, has been awarded the Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA) Medal of Honor for Career Service; one of the highest distinctions granted by the international professional society.
This prestigious award recognises Tegwyn’s outstanding and sustained contribution to both the SPWLA and the broader field of petrophysics over the course of his career.
A Career Defined by Technical Excellence and Service
Now based in North America as Principal Technical Advisor at Geoactive, Tegwyn brings more than 35 years of experience in the oil and gas sector. His career spans deep technical expertise and leadership across formation evaluation, software development, and advanced subsurface analysis.
Prior to joining Geoactive, Tegwyn held senior roles including 14 years with Halliburton. He has also made significant contributions to the industry through the publication of numerous technical papers and continues to work at the forefront of key areas such as borehole imaging and the application of machine learning in petrophysics.
Academic Foundations and Early Career
Tegwyn’s journey began in Machynlleth, where he was educated at Ysgol Bro Dyfi before going on to study Applied Mathematics. He later completed a PhD in Rheology and Computational Fluid Dynamics at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth, followed by postdoctoral research at the University of Plymouth, supported by BP.
Longstanding Contribution to the SPWLA
A dedicated member of the SPWLA for over two decades, Tegwyn has played an active role in shaping the Society’s work across education, technology, and professional development. His contributions include serving as President, alongside many years of volunteer leadership and committee involvement.
His recognition with the Medal of Honor reflects not only technical achievement, but also a deep commitment to advancing the profession and supporting the global petrophysics community.
Reflecting on the award, Tegwyn commented:
“Volunteering with the Society has opened many doors, but more importantly it’s led to lasting friendships. It shows what can be achieved when people are willing to give their time.”
Recognising Excellence at Geoactive
At Geoactive, we recognise that our strength lies in the people behind our technology. Tegwyn’s achievement is not only a personal milestone, but also a reflection of the expertise and commitment we bring to the industry.
We are proud to have him as part of the Geoactive team and to celebrate this well-deserved recognition of his career and contributions.
Congratulations, Tegwyn!
