Webinar: Working with Python in IP - Bringing Your Own Code to Petrophysics

You don't have to choose between Interactive Petrophysics (IP) and Python. Your own code can work directly with IP data, while results remain in IP for QC, visualization, interpretation, and sharing. In this webinar, you'll see how to create custom Python User Apps, use Jupyter Notebooks for exploratory analysis, and work directly with ip2py, IP's dedicated Python library, to build automated and repeatable workflows around your petrophysical data.

Thursday 19 November | Eastern Webinar 08:30 - 09:30 GMT | Western Webinar 15:30 - 16:30 GMT

Why Attend

You've already invested time building Python expertise, scripts, and workflows. The challenge is often getting those tools to work efficiently with interpretation data without relying on manual exports, disconnected processes, or one-off analyses.

Join Andy McDonald for a practical webinar exploring how Python can work directly with IP. Through live demonstrations, you'll see how to access and analyse IP project data, automate repetitive workflows, apply custom calculations, and integrate your own Python tools and libraries into everyday petrophysical workflows.

We'll demonstrate the different ways Python can be used with IP, including User Apps, Jupyter Notebooks, and ip2py, helping you understand which approach is best suited to your use case. Whether you're building custom applications, developing reusable workflows, or looking to scale Python across your team, you'll gain practical insights that can be applied immediately.

What You'll Learn

  • Run your own Python methods on IP project data without manual export and import.
  • Automate repetitive multi-well tasks so they take minutes instead of hours.
  • Turn personal scripts into shared tools that the wider team can run within IP.
  • Combine the Python ecosystem, including pandas, scikit-learn, and other libraries with IP data.
  • Choose the right approach for your workflow using User Apps, Jupyter Notebooks, or ip2py.

In 2021, Andy was selected as a Distinguished Speaker by the SPWLA for his paper on the importance of data quality for machine learning models in petrophysics.

IP 2026 Highlights

IP 2026 introduces cutting-edge modules and upgrades for deeper insights. Exciting new modules such as Sonic Saturation, Multi-Well Experienced Eye, and Pyrolysis open doors to advanced analysis. Lots of new general improvements include Enhanced Zone Colors, Better Flag Curves, and a new Multi-Regressions feature on Crossplots , this is all complemented by a streamlined Python installer for elevating your own custom workflows.
Existing modules have been significantly upgraded too: Casing Inspection, Formation Testing, Image Analysis and Mapping now deliver improved accuracy and functionality, ensuring interpreters have the best tools at their fingertips.
